ccnp route...

where i am...

although i started route as i was finishing up switch, i didn't count it as study, merely a distraction... the focus was switch, but that was 3 weeks ago...

on cln today somebody mentioned that their boss was giving them 2 months to complete and pass the whole of ccnp...  my advice was, fire your boss...

tshoot alone could reasonably be done in 2 months or less, after hurdling both switch and route, but not before...

even if racing through ccnp in 2 months was possible, and passing? it would hardly be worth the effort... at the other side, you would be left with a jumbled mass of nothing...

i work, including travel, 50 hrs a week...  in 3 weeks i have managed to study on average, 7 hrs a day... on average, because on the weekends i force myself 12 hrs or more a day...  that is about 150 hrs in 3 weeks... is that because i'm racing to get through route? hardly... my plan is to bring all of switch and route with me into ccie...

what happens when you race?  you have to relearn everything again, because you didn't properly learn it the first time...  front load the pain...

today i spent 6 hrs getting all of the key topics from the odom ocg and then some, into anki... that is about 350 entries in anki... why?  because i did it for switch, and i'm doing it for route as well even though i know memorizing the book is virtually impossible...  i read the ocg book... what does that mean... i read the text body all the way through, but i skipped the do i know this already and the other very important elements at the end of each chapter that require a greater deal more time because i'm saving them for the next go around... do you think for 1 minute simply reading the book is enough... hell no... and only once... forget it... and only the ocg... you are outside your mind...

i'm half way through the netacad labs and routing tcpip vol 1, and i'll get through routing tcpip vol 2 before taking the route exam... it will be months before i'm ready for route, and so be it...

i have the glossary from the ocg as anki cards; that is 450 entries itself...

and along the way i'll take detours, as i do now...

why? because i don't want to play catch up on the things i should have learned through ccnp, when i approach ccie...

that is why...

and you shouldn't either...

the cert is not the goal...  the cert is collateral damage...
