outside in...
i opened a terminal on the desktop and pinged one of the switches in the vm...
i have network wood...
the greatest comic book creator who ever lived was jack kirby... stan lee gets all the credit but kirby was the true genius behind it all... i read a story once that he lived out in california and would often allow fans to come over for lunch invited... unbelievable... i lived out there at the time, and i could have done this too had i known... another missed shot...
telnet with nix..
telnet is a lot more flexible with nix... it's native, and you can do a lot... i can do this from the desktop also, but i chose to represent this from the vm...
i telnetted to all the switches and turned on debug ip icmp on the dls's so i could witness real time debugging from one machine to the other... problem is i do a lot of experiments that may cause a connection drop with telnet, and that is where some kind of access server would come in handy... still researching the most cost effective way to accomplish that, and without too many headaches, and console cables..
have i mentioned yet today that i hate windows...
the flexibility here is quite nice...

inside the vm...
i installed vmware to check it out and it's very cool.... i assigned 20 gig to the vmplayer and a gig of ram for it's purposes... naturally when you shut it off it gives back those resources... it is a machine within a machine, a vdisk like in the old days... below you'll see a telnet representation of my switch lab from the vm... virtualization in it's many forms has become a big player n the network world the last couple of years... time to throw my hat in...
here you can see the resources allocated for the vm and the usage... notice the single cpu output...
so i bounced out of the vm, back to the desktop to show the resource usage for the entire machine below, and am finishing this post that i started from the vm, from the desktop of the ubu box...
happy vm...
