classful, classless and default routing...

a whiter shade of pale...

does it ever piss you off that you know, or are supposed to know some of these ridiculous distinctions...

for instance, you know the difference between classful and classless... one has it's basis in the iron age and the other is the modern day default... the age of vlsm has made classful routing completely irrelevant...

with classless routing if there is not a prefix match in the routing table, the default route will be used... that's very nice... can you say gateway of last resort...

with classful routing, if the classful network does not exist in the routing table, the default route will be used... good, however, if any part of that classful network exists in the routing table, and the route doesn't match a subnet in that classful network, the default route will not be used; the packet will be dropped...

so much for the default friggin route in classful routing...

i'm very sorry i know this...
