INE often touts books that are not cisco, because, well, they are not cisco... their point is valid; reading vendor agnostic books is probably a good thing because you are not stuck with a single vendor's idea's and gear, and ideas about their gear, and gear about their ideas, and, ad nauseum... it is a valid point...
so here is a link to their recommended reading list:
http://www.ine.com/resources/cciebooks.htm
and because i do, i ventured over there to have a look... one of the agnostic books featured is this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0201398613
this is not a joke... look closely...
that's right... look again... that is one thousand fifty seven dollars and seventy six cents...
for a new copy... well since it's a new copy, of course... and it was written in 2001 which makes it almost modern for an industry that changes every eleven seconds... that's a little more than a buck a page... just for reference, the ccna program was 3 years old at the publication of this book...
i think the reason it costs so much is that it comes with an original floppy disk chock full of word perfect documents...as an extra added bonus there's lots of chapters devoted to IPX...
