DTP (dynamic trunking protocol) is the freak behind all that negotiation crap between ports trying to determine if they want to be trunks or not... do yourself a favor; configure trunk ports manually at both ends...
it's simple, in interface configuration mode type, switchport mode trunk
end of headache
once this is done, DTP will send periodic messages to the port at the other end that it is trunking unconditionally
