increasingly, mpls and vpn are uttered in the same breath...
what: vpn (secure tunnel allowing access from the public network onto an enterprise)
why: to incorporate public network access into an igp in a secure manner
where: at the edge, via a browser or client
when: again, my experience; to allow a user from home to access the network as if he/she was there without the requirement of a dedicated path (public, internet)
