The overall hierarchical model is similar to the reference topology for enterprise campus design, but the term aggregation layer replaces the term distribution layer. This denotes the fact that the data center network is less concerned with distributing network access across multiple geographically disparate wiring closets and is more focused on the aggregation of server resource—and providing an insertion point for shared data center services.
